I used to bring car to them to do oil change and estimate since my car get high miles, they quoted price everything and it comes out 6000, they replace 2 bulbs and each cost around 100$ , save ur money go buy and replace by urself is 20$ . They appear nice, professional but with me it is pricey and feel like a scam. Oil change and estimate general maintenance overall cost around 200$ then they list everything with pictures need to go fix with cost total 6000, well thank for that i go other shops and ask them check again, they confirm my car is still ok no need to replace .

I had no choice in walking in my Radiator hoses on my vehicle were in need of replacement. I spoke with Jeffrey. He was very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. He worked with me On ordering hoses and replacing them upon pick up of the vehicle, I spoke to Brittany. She was very customer service oriented and very hospitable. I would definitely recommend rods to anyone who wants a fair deal with good guaranteed work. Satisfied customer Robot.

If I could put a negative star amount I would. They charged me over twice the normal amount for services because they knew I couldn't go anywhere else due to my car being unable to be driven. Then when I needed electrical diagnostics (which they did separately from the "full" diagnostics I paid for) they wanted 500 dollars an hour. They do the minimum work and even then I'm frankly surprised they did anything at all. With the money I spent I could've bought my car 6 times, and even then they forced me to convert my suspension from air to coil to "save money". They will take every advantage possible to pull one over on you. DO NOT GO HERE.

They patiently walked me through the proposed repair and maintenance items, helping me prioritize which items were necessary, which could be deferred (and their consequences). They were willing to pick up and deliver my vehicle, as they've done in the past, which is close, but nevertheless very helpful. Great service. Good people.

I’m not usually one to review places, especially a mechanic. However I received such great service at Rod’s that I felt like I should. I woke up one morning and started my car only to find I had a broken serpentine belt and no power steering. Rod’s was the closest mechanic to me and upon calling to see if they could help, they told me to bring my car right over and they’d look at it that day. Felt comfortable as a young woman when dropping my vehicle off, and they did not treat me like I was clueless like I have encountered at other shops in the area. Dropped off at 7 am, my car was done before 4 pm. Very fair pricing, especially for how quickly they got the job done. They also took the initiative to charge my battery since they noticed it was weak and I appreciated the attention to detail. Will definitely be bringing my car here again if anything else happens.

These guys are so amazing! Had to have my 2003 Volkswagon Golf towed to their shop and they found that it needed a new fuel pump along with a few other things. They ordered a new fuel pump and within 2 days they had it done and ready! A week later it started running rough again, as I had only the fuel pump and an oil change done, I called them and asked if I could bring it in and they said of course! Took it in and it ended up being wiring and spark plugs, I was expecting to have to leave it for a day or two, the Office Manager said he would get the parts and did it himself! He had it done and running in 2 hours! Even offering suggestions as to new cars when I go to sell this one! I am so satisfied with their work and ability to go above and beyond!! Thank you!!

I'm conflicted. They're nice and I love how they have all the diagnostic info easily seeable and they showed tasks in order of need. But I tell ya I feel bamboozled by the prices. I had a battery replaced and diagnostic was almost 200 and the batery almost 200 and the labor almost 200. And they "upgraded" to a better battery without asking me. I would have chosen that but it felt sneaky. Ya know I'm gonna revise my review bc they lied in their response to my review. Very not cool. Also I got it priced at my usual mechanic for less than 200 for everything. So I mean all in all glad they were open but I'd have payed the tow truck more to take my car.... anywhere else. 👎

Hi Katie, Thanks for the review, yes you are correct, diagnostics here is $250 actually w/ tax and the battery was the remaining portion of the cost and the labor almost amounting to nothing as it is just a battery replacement. There also was no upgrade as you stated, we used what I said to you in person multiple times a "Factory" OEM battery because the car specifically specified for a Ford Battery. We only operate with transparency and a quote was sent to you far before approval :), so thanks for the comment and we strive as helpful as possible. -Zach

I lucked out in selecting Rod's Master Auto to work on my 1998 Toyota Sienna. They not only provided a detailed inspection, catching a few items that I'd missed, but their transparent inspection report gave enough detail that I could check out their recommendations with some trusted friends before deciding which items to fix. No pressure. No hassle. Just the opposite, actually. I live outside of the area and was able to arrange for them to obtain a key to the vehicle. They picked it up from and delivered it back to the Bellingham International Airport. Thank you for the professional and convenient service!

Rods is absolutely awesome. I've been taking my vehicles to them for years. They communicate very quickly via call or text message. My favorite part is they document everything via a program with pictures and detailed explanations of what they are advising, what's been done and what needs to be done. You can refer to the whole history of your vehicle via the link or use it for a second opinion if you'd like. These guys will get you in and out quickly and treat you with respect.

I've taken my family's 13-year-old Jeep to Rod's Master Auto Tech a few times now for major servicing and have always had excellent experiences. Rod's provides detailed inspection reports and estimates, with photos and technician notes. Jeffrey has been awesome with answering my questions and responding promptly to phone/text/email communications. Both times, Rod's returned our vehicle on the date promised. It was enormously helpful that Rod's provided a loaner car for the days our vehicle was in the shop. (Recently, our vehicle had to be towed to the shop from Anacortes because of a check engine light issue. Jeffrey was so kind as to come by the shop on his own time on a Saturday to give us a loaner car!) Know that credit card payments incur a surcharge. (More precisely, Rod's invoices state, "4% cash discount incentive built into all pricing. Any purchase with any card will NOT receive the cash discount. This helps Rod's provide health care benefits to its team.") Rod's pricing is comparable to dealerships I've been to in the past (meaning, not cheap), but the quality of service has been significantly better than at the dealership. Rod's also stands by its work. When I brought the Jeep in this week for a heater/coolant issue, they spotted that the rear axle assembly was leaking. They checked their records and saw that they had repaired that axle last summer, and that the parts were still under warranty. Rod's replaced the axle at no charge, and their vendor also provided expedited delivery of the replacement. I'll definitely be back in the future and would not hesitate to recommend this shop to anyone seeking high quality auto repairs. Update May 8, 2023: Brought the Jeep in for brake squeaking today. They couldn't find anything wrong, but they didn't charge me for either the look-see or the loaner. Thanks so much, Zach! Hope this updated review brings you folks some well-deserved good karma! Update October 2023: Service still good! Update July 2024: Service still good. This will be my last update since we’re now leaving the area. Wish we could take Rod’s with us to our new home!

My A/C broke down during our road trip to Vancouver, Canada. I was able to be seen at Rod's. I did have to commute from Vancouver down to Bellingham but they were able to find the problem and also find another problem tgat would have been a bigger problem down the road. Zach was awesome, he made sure I was taken care of. He broke down what the cost of the repairs would be and dealt with the warranty company and made sure I would be compensated. I was worried because I was from out of town but I found this shop on Google and the shop had good reviews. They did an awesome job. I would totally recommend them to anyone who live in thus area.

Went in and talked with Zach, thinking I had transmission problems. We talked it over and covering all the options, and started with a tech review of my car. Turned out to bet nothing! They could have taken me for big money, but didn't. I'll definitely be back there again when I think I have some more problems! 😁👍

Zach and Brian are absolutely awesome. They found an issue on my Yukon XL that had literally been causing problems for months that no other shop in Whatcom County could get to the bottom of. They were extremely quick, efficient and very thorough. I showed multiple people the very detailed report they sent on my car and everyone was impressed at just how thorough they were. I didn’t end up keeping the vehicle due to just being over it (was a problematic gas guzzler) but I would almost bet money on it is still running 100% thanks to them. My friends actually recommended rods and I’m kicking myself for not going there first, because even if I had still ended up not keeping the car, I would’ve saved a ton of money. After all the mechanics I’ve dealt with in this mess I can say with 100% confidence that Brian was by far the most knowledgeable, he figured out some thing literally in hours that had taken a previous shop a month of the car sitting there (plus a return visit) with still no repair done. Do not hesitate or shop around just call here!! You won’t regret it!

I've had a persistent coolant issue that has been giving everyone nightmares diagnosing and repairing and Rod's was able to find the stubborn leak and repair it when no one else could. Zach at Rod's Master Auto Tech went out of his way to give me extra help in my unique situation. I do not live in the area, and I had never met Zach before---I was in the middle of a long roadtrip, heading to Whistler next. When my car broke down in Bellingham, Zach was very friendly, and we hit it off right away--- and he got my car fixed quickly within 2 days. And this unexpected car trouble made me change my roadtrip schedule a bit, so on the spur of the moment, I decided to take quick flight to California, and Zach let me store my fixed car at his shop for an extra 3-4 more days. My car was full of all my valuables on this long roadtrip, including a lot of expensive ski gear, etc.---so I really appreciated that Zach offered to store my car securely for those extra days. Later, when I returned from California, it was very smooth for me to get my car back and continue my long roadtrip to Whistler and beyond. Thanks Zach! :)

Great service all around! They were able to get my car in on short notice and do the full diagnostic and service in a very timely manner. Very friendly and honest staff I did not feel pressured to do more than work than what I brought my car in for. A few days after I got my car back I received a text from Zach checking in to make sure everything was still running great :) 10/10 would recommend!

My Mazda needed a 75,000 mile service before a road trip and Rod’s was able to fit me in super quickly. They were very thorough, with detail oriented explanations and photos to support their inspection. They also had a loaner car for me. The customer service and communication were superior. I promised Zach I would write a review. I never write reviews generally. Not that I don't appreciate services, good food etc. but mostly nobody asks. Caveat emptor maybe. Anyway. At first glance Rod's was the cleanest auto repair I have seen in a long time. Spotless and orderly. Zach at the desk was open, friendly and I got right in at my appointed time. To explain, there wasn't a single car in the shop or the parking lot. Empty. Gave me brief pause, but I wasn't put off because Zach liked my Jeep alot (25 yo, 250k mi) and has a daughter he takes skiing (we are both chatty). Back in the 70's I ran a sports car shop in Columbus, Ohio; Mid-Ohio Sports Car Center, it was a dump with a half dozen cars in varying stages of disassembly surrounded by grease and used parts. Not Rod's. You could do brain surgery there, but I digress. So they took my car in and did a diagnostic sending me an elaborate text in breathtaking detail with photos, explanations, recommendations and statistically justified repair suggestions. Extremely cool. No sticker. The list for my Jeep was long. The sticker was breathtaking. After a tad of harangue back and forth I acknowledged the poor husbandry of my classic old friend in need of much TLC. I sold a cow, two chickens and hit the Lotto so I said go for it. Every single thing they did on my Jeep was necessary, made it safer, more reliable, mostly long overdue (or never done) because I knew it would cost me. I am thrilled with the result. Runs smooth as buttah, rides like a dream and shifts like the gearbox is full of smooth Skippy. I'm happy. Hopefully I'm good for another quarter-million miles. By then I'll be 100. I'll bring it back to Zach, look at college photos of his kid and be grateful for good business that last because they do good.

Good service, was very thorough in checking all my fluids. I own a Mazda, and I would always have to go out of town for service, because for some strange reason every other place would overfill the oil and I would have to take it to Mazda to fix the mistake, but not at rod’s.

It may sound lame to compare Rod’s Auto Tech to a personal trainer for your car, but that’s how I think of it. My Mazda Miata’s unscheduled breakdown in a cold and rainy parking lot was a demanding situation for me, and Rod’s Auto Tech came to the rescue. For master technician Jeffrey, this may have seemed routine, but his attentive and immediate service made a horrible situation into a low-stress outcome. I’ll be back to Rod’s Auto Tech with both of my family Mazdas, even though I’ve always used traditional Mazda dealers as my only source of service. Jeffrey is like a commercial Mazda dealer service department with an array of extras. And an always pleasant attitude.

My evening unexpectedly started with my car battery dying just as i was crossing the border back to the US. As you could imagine, this is the last thing i would’ve wanted knowing there was still 5 hours remaining in my drive. We were towed by the (fantastic) tow truck company Meridian Towing and they recommended we have our car dropped off at Rods. Jeffrey (Rod’s son) was the main man in helping me navigate all the hurdles. He was incredibly responsive, patient and fast-acting. I have a lot of respect for this business and the people who clearly care a lot about their customers. He was able to order the battery and alternator parts in the same day, allowing me to get back on the road within 24 hours. Shoutout Jeff for being the goat. Support this local business!

I wish I could give them more stars! My 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been having electronic issues and throwing service signs in my face. I scheduled an appointment online after hours and Jeffery got ahold of me as soon as he could the next morning. I was able to show up and drop off my vehicle as soon as possibly. Jeffery was very professional and courteous while explaining the process. He was also very transparent with the cost of the diagnostic beforehand. My service tech was Jesse who did a thorough and complete diagnostic and inspection of my vehicle. After he was finished I was sent a link with the complete details of every step of their process with pictures included. This gave me a huge boost of confidence that I was being told the correct information. It turned out my auxiliary and main batteries were just low and was causing the service/engine lights. (Yay technology) Jeffery and Jesse recommended their preferred brand of batteries to replace them with. The entire process was pleasant and encouraging to someone who isn’t mechanically inclined and needs to trust the mechanics at the shop.

This was the best experience I've had at a mechanic. They did the most thorough inspection with photos and videos and a breakdown by area/problem. I don't know why more mechanics don't do this - having a video of the problem is so trust building. Their use of technology was outstanding. They diagnosed the problem quickly and got parts ordered super fast and the repair was done when they said it would be. Jeffrey was extremely responsive and thorough in his communication and went above and beyond to take care of me. It was easy to text with him or call. I highly recommend trusting them with your business.

Went in for a scheduled oil change made a week in advance only to be told that all of their lists were being taken up. Came back the next day and dropped off my car and walked to work and it was done by the time I got back, service was good knowledgeable and friendly and they are currently in the middle of getting more loaner cars on their roster. I will be going back next month to have more stuff done and see if they are deserving of a five-star instead. Edit: this place will now be my long-term mechanic they have more than earned my business after my having to be towed in and replacing my battery and belts, the front end staff is always remarkable, and the work that I've seen from the actual mechanics is top-notch.

FANTASTIC SERVICE! My wife and I were on our way from Vancouver, B.C. to California when our truck started to experience engine trouble in Bellingham. We called Rod's Master Auto Tech at 5:56pm (they closed at 6:00pm) and they booked us in the next morning at 7:00am. We were loaned a car but didn't really need it because at 11:30am our truck was repaired and ready to be picked up. We found the service to be very professional. I do not excel at vehicle maintenance and this time it almost got me in big, big trouble. Rather than talking down to me or attempting to make me feel less than for not taking care of my car (I had already done enough of that to myself!), Jeffrey expressed genuine care and concern. He explained everything they found and what would be required to keep it running. Thankfully I got it there in time and we have a plan for moving forward. And, they provided me with a loaner so my life wasn't on hold while they had my car. Win, Win! Thanks, Jeffrey - see you in November!

They diagnosed my car without even taking tire off. Then told me it was going to be 2700 dollars to fix. I took it to another place and they said Master Auto Tech misdiagnosed it. The new place fixed the problem and more for 150 bucks. I’m a nice guy but I have to say this place was legit trying to rip me off. He even tried to buy my car for 500 bucks. My car has 124,000 miles on it.

Hey I am assuming this is Richard with the 2010 Prius with odometer reading at 210,763km. With an oil change sticker in the corner saying the oil was due at Jan of 2022 or 164K kms. We of course didnt charge you full diagnostics on the brake inspection because we didn't need to remove the wheels to determine what was wrong. We have been around for a very long time and we have the best car knowledge around. Here are just the very beginning of a long paragraph of notes from our technician about your brakes : "Technician Notes & Findings from Investigation: While inspecting brakes I found that the rear driver caliper is seized. There are metal shavings on the rotor and caliper and I cannot spin the wheel at all." Ask any shop, or anyone reading this why we would need to remove your wheels to diagnose that the brake caliper is sezied? We would not need to. Therefore we discounted the brake inspection and priced out a brake job of pads, rotors, and calipers. So to whatever shop you went to that said they fixed it for 150 worries us to the fullest as the brake caliper alone costs more than that. & Now youre back on our county roads driving an un-safe vehicle. We took photos & videos for you proving exactly what your vehicle requires. We are not a shop that 'bandaids' any work. You asked if we could do 1 caliper, we said no. That is not professional and will make un-even braking. The rear hatch of your car couldnt stay closed properly without tape. The catalytic converter you installed yourself was just shoved into an old pipe- no welds, no clamps no gaskets installed & It still has a P0420 code. Thank you for trying our shop and we are sorry that you are upset with our prices as a business. We provide a lifetime warranty on all our parts & our labor & we won't lower our standards to be cheaper for any one at all. We care more about our reputation than making a bunch of money.

I had a problem installing our new bulbs for our headlights. The wiring that the clips connected to fell apart in my hands and I couldn't get the light bulb out of the right headlight. The prongs just broke. I ended up with no headlights working at all. Called Rod's Master Auto Tech and they had me bring it in right to look at the problem. They pulled the technician out right when I got there to look at the problem. Although they couldn't fix it right then they made sure I had running lights and we made an appointment for the first thing the next morning. Not only were they able to get the right light bulb out so they wouldn't have to replace the whole headlamp, they got both headlights working again. I was very impressed that they got me right away. I had called my other mechanic and they couldn't get me in until the next week.

I live just around the corner from this place and realized i had a flat tire. These guys kindly changed my tire and put the spare on free of charge. It was 9 degrees outside and they spared me the hassle of doing it myself in the freezing cold. We will be bringing our Nissan here for service very soon.

They quoted me $3,000 on a new clutch. On the phone they made it sound like they were giving me a good deal. I got quotes from 5 other places including the dealership and the average quote was between $1600-2200. This was accounting for labor, parts, tax and everything. It’s one thing to be on the high end of the range and make up for that by having good service but if the dealership charges less with the same guarantees of service quality, part quality, and warranty, then you are over charging plain and simple. Every other shop I called quoted me a much lower price for the exact same work, as well as warning me that any shop charging that much for that work is ripping me off. I can’t speak to the quality of their work but make sure to get a second quote before you use their services.

Hey Levi. Thanks for coming in and thanks for taking time out of your day to leave a review. So. From my understanding you're only leaving a one star because we are more expensive than other places? Giving a one star just because we quoted you higher than other places doesn't mean we do low quality work. It just means YOU would rather go for cheaper with less benefits of service and possibly lower quality parts. They also quote you over the phone without seeing your vehicle first so their quote could change. The dealer also does not have a lifetime warranty, most dealers give 1 year warranty. Not sure what the local Subaru dealer is though. Here's why we are different. In our quote we quoted you for parts, labor, diagnostics, and tax (and on this specific quote we quoted you for a clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, flywheel, clutch hose, clutch fluid exchange, brake fluid exchange, and a rear main seal with transmission service) We always quote for worse case scenario especially when you have to remove something as big as a transmission to perform a repair. Just today a client picked up her car and it ended up being $300 less. These prices we give are based on what is fair to the customer, fair to the technician, and then fair to the business to stay open. We do not base our prices off what other shops are doing. We give a lifetime warranty on our parts AND our labor. We also give our clients a 3 year nation-wide warranty with free roadside assistance that includes towing. We are a local family owned business that constantly gives back to the community.

With out a doubt this was the most complete, most honest and transparent repair shop We have ever used. They have a system that photographs everything, details existing problems and what is coming. The best shop I have ever used and far better than the Mercedes dealer nearby. We will never take this car anywhere else agin. They are not cheap but fair and also extremely nice people. If you want the best and most reliable this is it!

We recently had a misfire issue with our 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT & the mechanic shop we previously had our truck inspected at told us we needed a new engine. We were told that due to age and how severely overused the engine was that replacement of the engine is the only solution. Needing a second opinion I decided to bring it to Rod’s Master and from the beginning Jeffrey was confident they mechanics could find the problem. And sure enough they found that my engine was in good condition and what I need is decarbon & hot oil change. I saved myself 93% of the costs of what the other mechanic shop quoted. I highly recommend Rod’s Master!

I was having issues with my transmission and needed a place that worked on European cars. I called them up and they were very friendly and helpful. They did a full diagnostic on the car and sent me a play by play with pictures, videos and explanations. I don't know much about cars and tend to get anxious so I found this very helpful. It included descriptions of what all the parts did and what could happen if they broke or if fluids weren't changed or ran out. They answered my questions in a manner I could understand without talking down to me. The repair ended up taking longer than anticipated (supply and shipping issues, not their fault at all) but they kept me updated on their progress and the nature of the delays. They also gave me some helpful information on regular car maintenance which I'd never thought to ask about. They are a locally owned buisness and were so helpful and friendly that I will absolutely go to them for all car maintenance and any future issues. I highly recommend them. Also, they cleaned my car, which I wasn't expecting, and gave me a goody bag with items from other local businesses which was delightful!

I hardly leave reviews for places but I had such a nice experience I felt like I should share. Let me start off by saying if you’re just looking for a cheap temporary fix, Rods might not be the best choice for you. But if you’re looking for someone who actually genuinely cares and will only provide the best of the best service then this is the place to go! I ran into a few issues with my car and I called 11 places all around Bellingham who refused to take my car because I have an ignition interlock in it. I had called place after place with so many people shutting me down immediately all while being rude and not helpful as to where I could find someone who might take my car. FINALLY I found rods and Jeffrey was quick to accept my car and get me in within the next few days. Jeffrey actually listened to me about the issues I was having (unlike the many mechanics in bham who didn’t seem to care) and was from the jump ready to help me fix my Chevy Cruze. He jumped through a lot of hoops in order to get my car serviced due to my interlock. I genuinely felt bad because it all seemed so out of the way but he was so quick to make it seem like it really wasn’t an issue. He figured out what was making my car running a little funny along with some other things that could be fixed soon but never gave me any pressure to have it all done. My car had to be at the shop for a couple days so I was out of a car but he had offered his brother to give me a ride home and to and from work. Once I got my car back she was riding smoothly and just right again! It was such a great experience and I will 100% be back for whatever service I need next. Customer service has always been something that’s very important to me everywhere I go. I have never felt so respected and heard by anyone until I came to rods and met Jeffrey. Thank you so much Jeffrey and the rest of the crew! You guys are so awesome and I am so grateful!
